4th of July Parade 2021

The Great Falls Shrine Pipe Band will be participating in the Great Falls 4th of July parade again this year.

The band will be meeting at 10:00am at the park on the south side of the Civic Center, at the corner of Park Drive and 1st Ave South in Great Falls.

The uniform for the day will be ghillie brogues, black hose, tartan flashes, née kilt, new sporran, white long sleeve dress shirt, black vest, and glengarry hat. (If you have questions on how to wear something, bring it to the practice on Saturday and we do a dress and deportment review.)

The parade goes east down 1st Ave South to 8th Street, turns left for one block, then back west down Central Ave, ending at the Civic Center, so it should be a fun time! The weather is forecast to be hot, so please plan on bringing some water to be able to drink before the parade begins.

We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Bitterroot Celtic Games & Gathering 2018

The band will be at the BCGG on August 18th and 19th, 2018, in Hamilton, MT, but any members who are planning to attend need to fill out a form for the mass band or solo competition (depending on if you want to compete or just play in the opening ceremony) and get it sent in.

Please click on this link and print out the applicable form, get it filled out, and in the mail by Saturday to ensure you get it post marked in time. You can also preorder tickets for any family or friends who may want to go with you.

If you have any questions, I’m happy to answer them to the best of my ability, just send me an email, text, or call.

Update on Email Notification System

As most of you are aware, our email notification system stopped working a few weeks ago and it has resisted our efforts to get it back up and running. After conducting a thorough overhaul of the entire website and installing and configuring a new notification application, it appears that it may be back up and running again (and if you are reading this in an email, that is a good sign!).

Lets all keep our fingers crossed (but no crossing noises please), and hope that its back working!

St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2018 – Band will not participate

Due to the low temperatures, 33 is the forecasted high with a possibility of snow, and the high possibility of icy roads, the band has decided not to participate in this years parade. We regret to have to have made this decision, but the safety of our instruments and members comes first. We hope next year’s weather is better and we look forward to continuing our participation in this fun event in the future.

For anyone who would still like to watch the parade, it will start on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 1pm and follow the usual route through downtown Great Falls.

The passing of our Drum Major

Ted Byers passed away peacefully last Monday at Peace Hospice in Great Falls. Ted served as the Band’s Drum Major and Quarter Master for many years, and only gave up leading the band on parade after turning 91. Even after retiring from parading, Ted remained active with other band activities including managing the band’s equipment and uniforms as Quarter Master, and assisting with the Shrine Circus.

Ted spent many years drumming with the Elks competition drum corps, and he brought that knowledge and experience with him when he began playing with the pipeband, first as a bass drummer, and then as the Drum Major. Ted’s height and bearing made for an impressive sight leading the pipeband down Central Avenue, and his attention to detail with uniform and parade drill made for a great first impression as the band marched in parades and at other events.

Ted’s funeral will be held this coming Thursday, March 2, 2017, at 2:00pm, at the Elks Lodge #214, 500 1st Ave South, Great Falls, with a reception immediately following the service.
